Street protests against the Vietnam War, demonstrations for climate protection, or gatherings of right-wing extremist groups in the USA show societies in upheaval. In contrast, a video recording of the famous solo The Goldberg Variations by the American dancer Steve Paxton. In 1986, he shaped postmodern dance to the music of Bach with a new understanding of movement: Improvisations, everyday movements, and spontaneity opened up new possibilities of expression. How is art influenced by socio-political context? Where do we stand today? In his latest piece, Michiel Vandevelde spins a thread between past and future, between crises and creativity. Just as the accordion creates an extraordinary musical background for these variations, the dance trio also displays a repertoire of movements that is a testimony to great diversity. A reflection on the state of dance today, on the state of democracy and on different forms of physicality.
Note: The performance will also be broadcast live on screen at fabrik Garten. Free admission.
